POLL Question: What is Jake Virtanen’s Ceiling?

Jake Virtanen appears to be coming into his own. Despite limited minutes, his role with the Sedin twins has opened him up for some offensive success early in this season – but are fans raising their diminished expectations of the young Abbotsford native?

I think most of us can agree that a guy like Derek Dorsett and his career point totals would temper any expectations of a break-out season this year despite a hot start. That is totally fair and I don’t disagree. The debate over the ceiling for Virtanen; however, is heating up again. Just as Vancouverites were coming to terms with drafting a fourth-line grinder over Nikolaj Ehlers and William Nylander, the kid gets hot.

Virtanen has 2 goals in his last 2 games and has earned a spot on the top line (or second line?) with the Sedins. He is starting to show-off the speed, sandpaper and offensive upside that had scouts salivating over him in junior when he potted 50 for the Calgary Hitmen. Now that we may be seeing the maturation of Virtanen into some form of the player the Canucks hoped for, what is his ceiling now?
